We Are All Struggling

We are all struggling…

Some, for the basic meals of the day
For a morsel of bread and a bowl of whey,
For a shred of cloth, a roof o’er head.
For a beacon of light, to come instead.
So let us be kind.

Some, for equality and fundamental rights.
Also for the ones that’ve been denied.
Vying to be identified as a man, woman or queer
To exercise choices and beliefs without fear.
So let us be kind.

Some, for liberation
From infinite ghosts of the past,
Seeking to bury hauntingly beautiful memories,
Wistful reveries or bottled up dark treacheries.
So let us be kind.

Some, for a dash of freedom
From shackles of patriarchy and bygone demons,
Battling to find the righteous voice,
To kill the inequities and practice own choice.
So let us be kind.

We are all struggling
Through a menagerie of issues,
Decades and decades of suffering,
And years and years of abuse.
So let us be kind…

…In what we say and what we do,
In what we give and what we brew.
In who we laud and who we flay.
’Cause we are all struggling at the end of the day!
